I can never have enough highlighters, so I picked up the J.Cat baked highlighter during an online ULTA haul. Baked formulas aren’t really my favorite, because in my experience, they aren’t that pigmented. And I don’t have time to wet my brush and blend in the morning. #lazygirlproblems. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised by the pigmentation of this J.Cat Beauty highlighter, and it’s a crime that I haven’t heard anyone talk about this product.
The J.Cat Beauty You Glow Girl Baked Highlighter retails for $9 USD, and you get 0.3 oz. It’s the same amount of product as the Milani Strobelight highlighter. Actually, the container the highlighter comes in is almost identical to the Milani container.
It’s a white circular, plastic compact with no mirror. For the amount of product, the compact feels bulky. J.Cat could have made it slimmer and more travel-friendly. When you close the lid, you get a satisfying click.
In my opinion, the front design is cute. I like the light-bulb details at the top.
I like the ultra disco ball highlight, so if you’re like me, you’ll love this formula. I don’t even foil it, and the glow is ultra metallic and shiny.
Holy pigment, right?
The shade I got, White Goddess, is unique. From the image online, I thought it’d be a pearl or a really light champagne highlight, but as you can see from the images, it’s a banana yellow with a tinge of green. The shade reminded me so much of the JD Glow Highlighter in Saks and Fifth, only this JCat highlighter is less pigmented. I haven’t seen any other highlighters with this particular shade. Usually yellow/champagne highlights have a neutral or warm bronze undertone.
And because the swatches taken at my desk wasn’t impressive enough, I got a shot of the swatches in front of my window. You can really see the shine and the green undertone.
I wore this highlighter for a week to work, and I was more conscious of my makeup because of it. Because this stuff is intense, and it lasts. After a eleven-hour workday, my highlight was still going strong, even at the corner of my eyes where highlight usually fades on me. I have oily skin as well, so that’s pretty impressive.
Please excuse my mess of a mane.
As you can see, it does emphasize texture at the top of my cheeks, but when you have a highlighter this pigmented and metallic, it’s bound to happen. I imagine if you were to wet your brush, the glow would be too intense for daylight. I barely get away with the highlighter applied dry at my office.
The downside to this product is that it’s online only, so if you’re interested, grab it when you get free shipping. Even though Instagram and Youtube love the strobing trend, I haven’t seen anyone talk about this product. Good drugstore highlighters are hard to come by. If you want to get your glow on at an affordable price, look no further.
The JCat Beauty You Glow Girl Baked highlighter gives you an intense metallic glow. If you’re really into the strobing trend or you just want to try it out, this product will deliver. It lasts all day, even on my oily skin. Though if you have textural skin issues, you might want to be careful, because this highlighter will emphasize them. The packaging could also use some improvement, but overall, this product is a winner.
